Our Story


Te Mata Figs is a family owned fig grower and creator of award winning fig products.  Established in 2007 from a passion to grow amazing figs in the warm Mediterranean type climate of Hawke’s Bay, we grow around 30 varieties of fresh figs and produce a wide range of fig products at The Figgery near Havelock North.

The Figgery Cafe & Shop was opened in July 2020 to demonstrate the versatility of figs in everyday food.

Food Safety, Quality and Sustainability are at the Heart of Te Mata Figs.  We operate under a New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) approved Food Control Plan which covers our fig growing, manufacture and sale of fig products.   MPI Notice of Registration

External audits are undertaken by MPI accredited auditors.

We are committed to quality in all aspects of its operation.  Because we use figs for our products, we sell only the best quality figs fresh in season.

We are committed to sustainability in its land use, growing, manufacturing and packaging.  Our figs are grown without any fertiliser, sprays or irrigation.  We use grass swards to encourage soil health and weed matting to reduce weeds.  Our products are manufactured without the use of artificial preservatives or additives.  We use recyclable cardboard packaging for fresh figs, and glass, paper and cellophane for our fig products wherever possible.
